 PATZCUARO, MEXICO

A PHOTOGRAPHIC ADVENTURE

FALL 2010

We will meet in the lovely colonial town of Patzcuaro located just an hour or so from Morelia, the capital city of the beautiful state of Michoacan. We’ll stay in a colonial era building now serving as a hotel just off the main plaza. From there it’s an easy walk to the market, churches, cemetery and other local points of interest, which will provide us with many photographic opportunities. There are also many fine restaurants and bars in which to wind down / recharge in the course of the day. In addition to Patzcuaro we will travel by bus to nearby points of interest including at least one archeological site and Isla Janitzio. The area is rich in pre-colonial history with a number of impressive Tarascan era buildings, especially at Tzintzuntzan. As an option we will make an all day trip to Uruapan and Paracutin if everyone is interested.

Our purpose will be to maximize our time enjoying and exploring this special part of Mexico and to create a support group of like-minded photographers. Bruce Hall and myself, two veterans of many travels in Mexico will facilitate. Each participant is asked to bring a portfolio of previous work and be willing to share his/her thoughts and feelings about their photographic practice, in the hope that we can all benefit from each other’s experience. This will deviate form the more traditional photographic workshop in that there will be no “celebrity” photographer who critiques each “student”, but rather a like minded group of individuals who can learn from each other.

Bruce Hall has been a photographer for many years. He lives in Portland, Oregon and exhibits regularly. His work is in many private and public collections including The Portland Museum and the Visual Chronicle of Portland. He is also a member of the Portland Grid Project, an ongoing project documenting the city of Portland.
