MEXICO
January 2010
This January I will be returning to the Guanajuato region for a full week of shooting. This year’s trip will be for seven days and we will base in the colonial town Guanajuato located about one hour from Leon.
Last year, Bruce Hall and I scouted Guanajuato and the surrounding area for seven days. During this time we had the opportunity to shoot amazing street images, festivals, local markets as well as landscape and colonial architecture. The trip was so successful that we have decided to return.
The Unesco town of Guanajuato is a colorful little “ city” with a lively a University scene, local markets, crowded Zocolos. The town is easily covered on foot yet big enough to provide many interesting photographic opportunities and an interesting nightlife.
During the week we will explore and shoot in our temporary home of Guanajuato, trip out to Cristo Rey and many of the small towns between Guanajuato and Cristo Rey. In addition, we will make day trips to San Miguel and Leon (a bustling industrial city that offers tons of street photography opportunities).
Our purpose will be to maximize our time enjoying and exploring this beautiful part of Mexico and to create a support group for a group of like-minded photographers. Both Bruce Hall and myself, two veterans of many travels to Mexico, will facilitate. Each participant is asked to bring a portfolio of previous work and be willing to share her / his thoughts and feelings about their photographic practice in the hope that we can all benefit from each other’s experience. This approach deviates from the traditional photographic workshop in that there will be no celebrity photographer who critiques each “student”, but rather a like minded group of individuals who can learn from each other.
I would suggest that you take a look at the Mexico section of my portfolio in order to get a sense of place.
